I’ve installed very-low-power FM transmitters in several churches, primarily for hearing-impaired, wireless distribution for the facility, and a DIY in ear monitor (IEM). These devices can easily transmit hundreds of yards. Automobile radios are typically very sensitive. I will post some resources from major retailers in a bit.
Another possible way to address audio is by simply using cell phones. The pastor or leader has options for widely available microphones including a headset or earpiece. I will post a high quality option that costs around $12 and connects directly to the cell phone. Beware, cell phones are designed for voice and typically are poor for music. Finally, with a powered speaker (some of which have internal battery power) or complete sound system may be a workable solution in some climates.
